  • An Introduction to my Interests and Research Areas

I am Mistress Fiadnata ó Gleann Àlainn, OP OL, active within the Society for Creative Anachronism since A.S. IX. My main area of service interest is Arts & Sciences Administration — I have served as a local, regional and deputy Kingdom officer (or as a resource point for my local and regional officers) since A.S.XXVII/1993.

My specialty area of research interest within the Arts & Sciences is fiber arts (particularly fiber preparation) and topical research in many fields, and extends back to the history of spinning and weaving within the ancient world and how those experiences shape fiber practices in the medieval world. Currently, I am researching the domestication of flax, and its spread through prehistory and early history around the Mediterranean and throughout the Western world. Mundanely, I am a retired reference librarian from a research library.
